Kabamby Ocean Jasper Medium Rough Chunk

Ocean Jasper is a trade name for an orbicular chalcedony found only in northwest Madagascar. "Orbicular" refers to the spherical patterning in many pieces. Ocean Jasper actually comes from two distinct deposits, about ten miles apart: near the villages of Marovato and Kabamby. This rough comes from Kabamby. The material there tends to be golden yellow and dark green but can also be red, brown, and peach. It often has pronounced orbs, banding, or geometric patterns created by contact between individual orbs as they formed. While the deposit at Marovato has been tapped out since 2006, a small vein was worked during 2013, the Kabamby mine is still productive.  To read more about the geology and history of Ocean Jasper, you can read Christopher's blog here.

Ocean Jasper is associated metaphysically with balancing "parts to the whole", addressing components of a system and then reintegrating them, like an individual chakra to the entire subtle body. Orbicular stones have been used traditionally for insight, intuitive development, and spiritual protection. Ocean Jasper is a popular tool today for purification, peace during change, and emotional support. When it was first discovered the mine was only accessible at low tide, associating it with these spiritual qualities of the sea.
