Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral. It has been used as pigment for paint as early as the middle ages and as carvings in Egypt as early as3000BC. It is usually found as bands of dark and light vivid green and rarely in crystal form. Malachite is often found amongst other copper minerals like chrysocola and azurite. The finest specimens are found in the Congo, but it can also be found in Australia, Chile, S. Africa and the SW USA.
