Kabamby Ocean Jasper Free Form Sculpture, Polished on One Side

While Ocean Jasper only comes from one place in the world, the northwestern corner of Madagascar, there are two distinct deposits, about ten miles apart: Marovato, along the shoreline, and Kabamby, further inland. While the veins in Marovato are currently tapped out, the mine at Kabamby is still productive, yielding a distinctly yellow and green stone, sometimes red and cream. Its orbs tend to be larger than the Marovato material and can produce a unique geometric patterning where they touch one another. Ocean Jasper is associated metaphysically with purification, balancing “parts to wholes”, like working on a specific chakra and then helping it integrate back into the energy body, and emotional, mental, and physical well being. This free form sculpture was produced by cutting and polishing one side of a rough piece of Kabamby Ocean Jasper.  It measures approximately 3" X 5" X 3 1/4" and weighs approximately 2.37 lbs.  This piece has the geometric patterning that Kabamby Ocean Jasper is famous for, with multicolored ringed orbs morphing into irregular polyhedrons.  The orbs on the polished side show a wide color palette, with light and dark pink, golden and pale yellow, and green.  A few areas are covered in a druzy of clear to green quartz crystals.  Almost all Ocean Jasper has natural fractures, due to the brittle nature of chalcedony.  A network of fine lines is visible in one corner of this piece.
