Golden Healer "Everything" Quartz Palmstone with Pyrite
Measures Approximately: 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 7/8"
Weighs Approximately: 3 oz

Madagascar has a knack for throwing her shoulder into some specimens to make them what I call "everything" crystals.  The golden healer quartz often forms with or as girasol quartz, sometimes as smoky girasol, and can also sometimes have dendrites.  Pyrite is a far less common inclusion, but when it happens, its quite yummy.  Some of my favorite stones are those that have weird pyrite inclusions in it.  I suspect that pyrite does something to upgrade the host crystal in a way that makes the host energy easier to integrate in some way.  I just respond so strongly to pyrite in anything else.  I like pyrite by itself, but I don't like it as much as when it is ~in~ something else.

“Golden healer” is a metaphysical trade name for golden yellow to ochre brown quartz colored by iron oxides like limonite. Girasol quartz is a clear to milky white cousin of star rose quartz. It typically has an opalescence or floating glow created by light scattering off microscopic fibers suspended inside it. This optical phenomenon is known as the girasol effect, from the Italian girasole, “turn to the Sun”. Both golden healer quartz and girasol quartz are associated metaphysically with spiritual and personal evolution, energy work modalities like Reiki, and emotional, mental, and physical well being.

The name “girasol” is given to stones that display a misty opalescence or a floating glow similar to moonstone’s adularescence.  The name comes from a Venetian glass called girasole (Italian, “turn to the sun”) invented to replicate opals, colored blue and gold by the Rayleigh scattering of light like opalite.  Just as there are star rubies, garnets, and diopsides, the girasol effect may be found in opals, sapphires, and this white variety of Madagascan rose quartz.  Girasol quartz comes from the same mines as rose quartz and may also display asterism.  According to current theories rose quartz is colored pink by a previously unknown mineral called “dididumortierite”.  The cause of the white color in girasol quartz is debated.  Since “dididumortierite” can lose its pink color when heated, it may be caused by exposure to underground magmatic activity.

Metaphysically, Girasol is a "Sacred Union" and polarity balance crystal.  It's name means "turn to the sun", but it is also called "moon quartz", so it is associated with both solar and lunar energies.  When it is in shadow, it looks like a glowing white color and when it is lifted to the light, it has a slight golden glow.  I'm still amazed that it's not more popular in the healing community as we are all on the path of integrating masculine and feminine energies and qualities for wholeness.  Plus, the balance needed between the masculine and feminine, in general... dude, it's an epic readjustment that we need super hard.

Smoky quartz is a brown to black variety of quartz.  According to current theories exposure to natural underground radiation causes trace amounts of trivalent aluminum (Al3+) to replace some of its silicon.  This change in its crystal structure creates its color.  The name has changed slightly over time.  Many historical sources called it “smoked quartz” instead, after its resemblance to smoke cured foods.  Since natural irradiated color develops slowly below certain temperatures, smoky quartz tends to be found in specific environments like higher elevations where it had time to slowly darken.

Metaphysically, smoky quartz is one of the best protection, shielding, grounding, and stabilizing stones.  It also makes an excellent meditation stone when paired with an expansive mate like selenite, moldavite, scolecite, amethyst, or whatever vibes high with you.  It basically makes sure that the expansive energies have a place to connect and dig into the physical level, which speaks mostly to being able to integrate the energies and experiences you can reach with the high light stone.  You can't turn on a light if the electricity isn't grounded, right?  Same thing.

Pyrite, also known as "Fools Gold", is an iron sulfide (FeS2).  Its name is taken from "pyr", meaning fire.  It will produce sparks that can start a fire if struck against something hard.  It can be distinguished from gold by using a streak test, which will show a black green streak.  Gold creates a yellow streak and is much softer.  However, pyrite and gold do often form together, making it just confusing enough for a would-be gold miner.  Pyrite also often forms in dark, organic sediments that create beautiful pyritized fossils.  As an inclusion in quartz, pyrite can express in a variety of crystal formations.

Metaphysically, pyrite is a weird combination of a crown chakra stimulating stone and a deeply grounding stone from the iron within it.  The sulfur within pyrite makes it super protective with a bit of a "Holy Water" effect.  Since it opens the crown and grounds at the root, it would also have a flow and alignment movement through the full enegetic system.  Useful.
