Seed of Life Crystal Grid Templates

A crystal grid is an intentional arrangement of minerals, selected to represent a particular goal, and then spiritually activated to support that work. Just as a mixture of herbs and spices can create a taste greater than its ingredients, a grid is thought to weave together the energy field that surrounds individual stones, blending their energies and producing a mineral aura equivalent to a much larger piece.

Grids may be free form or based on a pattern, like a spiritual symbol or geometric figure. A grid template is a guide used to position the stones. The Metaphysical Department’s very own Stacie Coller pioneered a Seed of Life grid template now popular across the metaphysical community. “The Seed of Life” and the “Flower of Life” are contemporary names for ancient geometric figures, consisting of interlocking circles. The Seed of Life is constructed from seven circles, six symmetrically spaced around a seventh. The Flower of Life is an expansion of this pattern equally in six directions, although the exact number of circles varies.

To read more about the Seed of Life, check out Christopher's full length article on our blog here.

A number of grid templates can be produced by connecting different hexagrams and hexagons hidden within the Seed of Life. Stones are placed where the lines intersect or at spots flanking them. Both the Seed of Life and hexagram share symbolism cross-culturally, representing a union of opposites like feminine/masculine, moon/sun, and earth/heaven. Both shapes also suggest the “merkaba” or star tetrahedron, a three dimensional Star of David, seen as an evolution of the spiritual body in today’s metaphysical community.

Our most popular template are those used for our readymade Metaphysical Department grids, available on our website:

Additional templates are available below for free, ranging from versions with just lines to dots or different shapes that show stone placements. They are saved as PDF files.  Simply click the link and print one off.  These templates and all related information are provided as a service for your personal use and may not be used in any commercial or educational enterprises without our permission. But for your own personal use, copy as many as you would like and grid your heart out. The more, the merrier.

Activating a grid is as easy as doodling a daisy, as shown in this handout:

Linear Grid Templates

A number of different grid templates can be produced by partially or fully connecting different hexagrams and hexagons hidden within the Seed of Life. Here are some of them, without additional symbols.

Full Grid Templates

A full grid is created by adding six radial lines and eighteen crossing lines to the Seed of Life, producing a hexagram and three hexagons. Besides the center, stones are placed in geometrically related groups of six.

Stones may also be placed at flanking positions, besides or between the main points.

Full Grid Templates with Split Center

The central ring is usually filled with twelve stones. However every other position can be broken down into two separate ones. This produces a split center with eighteen spots, each on their own line crossing.

Crystal Grid Templates for Global Lightwork

For our recent global lightwork workshop and new global lightwork grid, we created a version of the full sized template placed on top of the Earth.  There are three versions available:

A North and South American Orientation

An Asian and African Orientation

Miniature Grid Templates

A miniature grid is created by adding six radial lines to the Seed of Life. Besides the center, stones are placed in geometrically related groups of three.

Hexagram Crystal Grid Templates

During the renaissance of crystal grids in the late 1970's to early 1990's, a hexagram shaped template was commonly used, sometimes with a hexagon border.  Grids were primarily quartz oriented at the time.  This shape replicates its six sided geometry, when seen in cross section, and its seven main placements for stones were thought to signify the chakras, just like the edges and point of a crystal.

This template was once better known as a "Star of David" or "Seal of Solomon" grid, after the traditional names for the downward and upward pointing triangles of the hexagram.  It symbolizes the union of opposites like female/male, earth/heaven, and dark/light.  Today it is more commonly called a "Reiki grid" after being popularized for long distance energy work in some branches of that healing modality.

Several versions of this grid are available on our website, some have just lines while others use different shapes that show stone placements. They are saved as PDF files.  Simply click the link and print one off.  These templates and all related information are provided as a service for your personal use and may not be used in any commercial or educational enterprises without our permission. Using the Different Shapes for Stone Placement

Place a stone at the center circle.  Then set six stones on the larger circles and squares along the outside.  Two alternating groups of three may be used instead: one on the large circles and one on the large squares.  These placements outline the two triangles of the hexagram.  An additional six stones may be placed on the large triangles and large stars. Two alternating groups of three stones may be used instead: one on the large triangles and one on the large stars.

Just continue this pattern for the more complicated versions.  I used smaller shapes to show the repeated sequence.  A set of six or two sets of three are placed at each pairing: square and circle, triangle and star.  So many spots are available with radial line grids, they are just represented by a diamond.

Nesting Versions

A more complicated version can be created by nesting increasingly smaller hexagrams in the inner hexagon of the larger shape, alternating in their orientation.

A large number of additional points may be created by extending radial lines across the template.
